The unique structure of the Debs Group of
Companies is the result of our evolution over several generations.
The expansion of the group is geared to cater to the needs of
both our customers and suppliers as well as adapt to the change
of times.
1917
The arrival
of Ezzat Debs to Japan, the first of the Debs family to come
to the Orient. Ezzat was the son of
Soubhi Debs, a textile merchant and owner of a
cotton processing mill in the Middle East.
1928
The arrival
of Abdul Hadi Debs to Japan to assist his brother Ezzat
in establishing a trading company that will export silks and
cottons, along with other sundry items, from Japan.
1932
Official establishment of A.
Debs & Company, a general trading company based on Yokohama,
Japan.
1950
Arrival of Fouad Debs, nephew of Abdul
Hadi, to Japan and the opening of the Osaka Branch office.
Fouad was in charge of managing the Osaka Branch office
to specialize and expand on the growing trade of textile
piece goods.
1981
A. Debs & Company begins its first
textile converting function by weaving and finishing its
own original fabrics. The company develops its first relations with finishing factories.
1987
A. Debs & Company holds its first international
exhibition at Interstoff Frankfurt in Germany which opened the
door to new markets in Europe and the United States. Sandwashed
Cupro, first pioneered by Debs, becomes an instant hit and success.
1988
Debs Inc (Debs Mexico) opens its doors
in Mexico City by Sana Debs to supply fabrics from Japan
into Mexico and Latin America.
1988
Utic & Company is founded in Fukui,
Japan as a dyeing and finishing facility owned by Toshikazu
Tanaka, a long time business partner and friend of Fouad
Debs.
1992
A. Debs & Company is incorporated
and renamed Debs Corporation with Sobhi Debs as President.
Debs Corporation was set to expand on its growing converting business
and upgrade its product development capabilities.
2000
East & East is founded by Nada Debs
in Beirut, Lebanon to create a furniture and interior design
company that specializes in modern, but traditional Middle Eastern craftsmanship.
2002
Amana Corporation is founded as a joint venture
between Debs Corporation and Utic & Company. Amana
leads the way into becoming a production platform for Debs
Corporation and the exporting arm of Utic & Company.
2004
AJ Tex is founded as a subsidiary company
of Amana Corporation in order to support the weaving functions
of Amana Corporation, Debs Corporation, and Utic &
Company, among others. This allows for a vertical
textile operation for the entire group.
2005
Debs Corporation launches its Real
Estate Division in order to develop and manage buildings
and properties in Japan. The division also aims at introducing new
business proposals to the company.
